Press Release

January 4, 2008

On Wednesday, January 2, 2008, units of the Meridian Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire at 3119 18th Street.  The cause of the fire that claimed the life of Edward Nobles appears to have originated around an open space heater.

The Meridian Fire Department wants to remind all citizens to be careful with any type of space heater.  Keep all heaters a reasonable distance from any combustible items, such as curtains, bedspreads, pillows, or towels.  Due to the colder weather Meridian is currently experiencing, all citizens are encouraged to check on elderly neighbors or family members.  Citizens with burglar bars on their residence need to make sure that there is ample means for egress in case of emergencies.
