Just Lose It Meridian” – Update

November 7, 2007

The City of Meridian is one month in to its three-month challenge of getting 1,000 people committed to losing 10 lbs. by the end of the year.  This is not a diet plan but an incentive to get people out exercising and cutting back on their food intake at a time of the year where we traditionally gain weight and make resolutions at the beginning of the New Year to lose it.

We currently have around 475 people signed up on the web site. This number represents several schools, businesses, medical institutions and individuals.  We could easily reach 1,000 people if a few more large employers and organizations would challenge their people to get involved.  Also, there are many people out there losing weight through some kind of other program; that’s great, we would just like to know your results and be able to count you in our effort.  It’s simple-- just go to the City of Meridian’s web site:

www.meridianms.org and click on the “Just Lose It” icon to sign up.

As an added incentive, three more local fitness centers/gyms have joined in to waive their initial sign-up fee for the week of Nov. 12 – 16 as a part of the “Just Lose It” campaign.  G’s Gym and Anytime Fitness Center, both in Broadmoor Shopping Center; as well as Black Eagle Karate near Bonita, which offers kick boxing aerobics have agreed to waive their sign-up fees next week to help encourage people to get started in some type of program.  Anytime Fitness Center is also offering a free personal training session to anyone who signs up next week.

The whole idea behind this program is to try and get Mississippi off the top of the list as the most obese and overweight state in the nation.  Come on Meridian, Just Lose It.
