Water Bill Questions


The Utility Billing Division reports to the City Clerk in the Finance and Records Department. We are responsible for getting meters read and bills out to the customers. Our team is available to assist you should you have any questions.               

Customers are welcome to call our office should they need to discuss their bill, need information about their meter, or need information about a leak adjustment. 

We offer EFT Bank Draft (from your checking account) as a way for you to pay your bill. Please see the form below. This will be an automatic monthly draft.  Bank draft is convenient when you are busy or traveling. This is available for you to sign up for at any time.

We also offer Online Bill Payment at utility.meridianms.org. Use the Express Payment option to pay by credit card or check. You may also register for online account inquiry.

Your bill includes water, sewer, and garbage fees. Payment is due within 14 business days of billing.


Water is billed at $4.24 per 1,000 gallons for the first 2,000 gallons and $4.60 per 1,000 gallons over 2,000 gallons. 

Sewer rates are the same as water (except during the period of May 1 through October 31, when sewer rates will not exceed the average sewer rate paid for the previous six-month period.)

Minimum Bills:

There is a minimum monthly bill requirement based on meter size. Most residential meters are 5/8 of an inch. The minimum bill for this size meter would be $28.96:

  • Water—$8.48
  • Sewer—$8.48
  • Garbage—$12


Service Charges are:

  • $5—Late fee if bill is not paid on or before the due date
  • $30—Reconnection charge due to a delinquency-related shutoff
  • $30—Reconnection charge for a locked meter
  • $50—Reconnection charge when meter has been pulled
  • $40—Returned check/bank draft fee

Garbage Collection


Southern Waste-A Waste Pro Company


The City of Meridian contracts solid waste collection to a private company. The present contract is with Southern Waste-A Waste Pro Company. You may also report your problems electronically by utilizing the trac EZ system by way of the links below. This system will respond to you by acknowledging your e-mail when action is taken.

Collection Service:

Garbage collection and rubbish/bulky waste pickup occur on the same day once a week. Recycling is picked up every other week on the same day as your other services. ALL ITEMS MUST BE ON THE CURB BY 7 A.M. FOR PICKUP.


City of Meridian Solid Waste Regulations

  • Each cart must be at curb by 7 a.m. and removed after collection.
  • The following types of garbage will be picked up: normal household refuse, which shall include refuse from the table and stove and small amounts of paper from the kitchen and bathroom.
  • All recycling will be collected curbside and shall be in the approved recycling bin provided and shall be placed within five feet of the curb or roadway by 7 a.m. for collection and removed after collection.
  • Acceptable items: All forms of paper that have not touched food like newspaper, cardboard, magazines, and office paper; #1 and #2 plastic bottles without caps (look for the #1 or #2 symbol on the bottom of the bottle); aluminum cans, rinsed; tin cans, rinsed with no lids; glass bottles/jars, rinsed with no lids, corks, or rings.
  • Unacceptable items will not be picked up.
Rubbish/Bulky Waste:
  • Your rubbish/bulky waste should be placed curbside in a location unobstructed by overhead wires, water meters, mailboxes, and other items that could interfere with efficient collection efforts.
  • Each container must be at curbside by 7 a.m. and not exceed 60 pounds in weight.
  • Acceptable items: All vegetative matter resulting from residential yard and landscape maintenance, to include tree and shrub trimmings, grass clippings, and small tree branches not to exceed 8 inches in diameter per branch.
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

*If your collection day falls on one of the above holidays, your collection service will be rescheduled, and a notice will be provided in the newspaper of the rescheduled day.
