Minimum Qualifications for a Firefighter
-You must be at least 19 years old
-Have High School Diploma or GED
-Have a valid Mississippi Driver License

Testing All testing done in accordance with rules and regulations of Civil Service Commission
Physical Testing - Pass or Fail only. Must pass to advance to written test
Written Test - Must have 70 or above to advance to oral testing
Oral Testing - Final testing, will be averaged with written test to make up total score

What is the Physical Test?
-Run / Walk 1 1/2 miles in 14 minutes or less
-Climb through simulated window-bottom that is 6 feet off ground
-35 sit-ups in 2 minutes or less
-Perform sit and reach flexibility measurement test with a score of 11 or greater
-Move a simulated victim, 125 lbs minimum weight, 75 feet within 1 1/2 minutes or less
-Pick up a 50 pound barbell, raise it at arm length to position waist high and hold for 30 seconds and then place it on the ground, then rest for 15 seconds, and pick it back up and raise it to shoulder length for 30 seconds then place back on the ground, then rest for 15 seconds, then pick it back up and raise it above their head and lock his/her arms out at arms length and hold it there for 15 seconds. This must be completed all in sequence at one time to pass this task.
-Drag (no running alowed) 150 foot of 2 1/2 lose 75 feet then make a ninety degree turn and contine to drag the hose around a simulated fire hydrant and stop 25 feet past the hydrant. Then pull the hose using only his/her hands and arms from the kneeling position until the next coupling is reached. This must be completed all in this sequence in 40 seconds or less to pass this task.
