After 39 years at a downtown location that was never designed as a fire station, the No. 1 Station has been moved to a city-owned site at 14th Street and 26th Avenue. Bonds totaling 3 million dollars were issued and the new station was completed in May of 2000.The facility includes traditional firefighting functions and also houses the city's fire administration and inspection departments. A firefighters museum is centrally located on the first floor of the facility. The apparatus room consists of five bays, including three drive-thrus, a hose drying tower, and locker/equipment storage areas. An overhead vehicle exhaust system is utilized in the apparatus bay and ventilation fans are provided in the hose drying tower.
