From water to streets to stop signs, the Public Works Department maintains the infrastructure of the city and has a strong impact on the quality of life offered to residents. Jobs performed by the Department include:

  • Maintaining streets, including paving and patching, installation of curbs and gutters, installing signs and striping streets.
  • Providing fresh water, reading water meters and billing customers, maintaining and replacing water meters, water and sewer lines and fire hydrants.
  • Monitoring garbage, trash and recyclable under contract with a private firm.
  • Operating the wastewater treatment plant.
  • Cutting down and trimming trees and cutting grass on city right-of-way.
  • Cleaning out ditches and culverts, sweeping streets, constructing sidewalks and spraying for mosquitoes.
  • Maintaining all of the city's vehicles and equipment.

The employees could be waiting on a piece of equipment that is coming or there is someone in the hole already working and those on the street are waiting to relieve them or there is not enough room for anyone else.

The pavilions rent for $40.00 and if you need electricity it's an additional $25.00.

Yes we do. The mosquito spraying is done in routes covering the entire City of Meridian . Every area of the city should be sprayed every six weeks.

You need to call Mr. Donald McDowell to file a claim at 601-485-1887. You also need to call 601-485-1990 to report the pothole and its location.

CAN THE CITY CUT DOWN OR TRIM MY TREE IF IT IS ON CITY PROPERTY?

The City of Meridian can only cut down and trim trees that are on the city right-of-way that have been determined to be a hazard.

WHAT IS THE SIZE LIMIT ON LIMBS BEFORE THEY CAN BE PICKED UP?
A.
