Okatibbee Lake (Public) Public hunting is a popular activity at Okatibbee during the fall and winter. Over 6,000 acres of land are licensed to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks. State laws govern hunting.

Bonita Lakes City owned 3,300 acre park situated on three lakes. Includes Long Creek Reservoir and Lakeview Golf Course. Beautiful, relatively primitive park features nature trails, jogging and walking track, horseback riding, picnic facilities, paddle boats, boat ramps and fishing. Free. Open year round 7 a.m.-10 p.m.

Bonita is reached by taking Highway 19 South, and is on the right immediately after leaving I-20/59. Long Creek is reached by Causeyville Road, a continuation of 22nd Avenue Heights. Long Creek opens one hour before daylight and closes one hour after sunset. Boat Limit: 16 foot, 25 hp motor.
Bonita Lakes is also the future home of the
Mississippi Arts & Entertainment Center.

Okatibbee Lake (Public) This 11,000 acre flood control project features a 4,100 acre lake and seven parks with facilities for class "A" camping, a full service marina, a motel, swimming beaches, a water slide, and other day-use attractions. Fishing is excellent. There is also a large area managed for hunting. Each year numerous special events are held at the lake including:
- World-class boat races
- Fishing tournaments
- Athletic Competitions such as the Mississippi State Championship Triathlon
- Pops Concert
- 4th of July Celebration
- Christmas on the Lake

Lake Tom Bailey - Located west of Meridian off Highway 80 near Toomsuba.

Bonita Trails - These trails are made for off road motorcycles and ATVs. Trails are located on Lakeview Golfcourse Road. Take Hwy 19 S headed out of Meridian, turn right onto Sandflat Rd, turn right onto Lakeview Golfcourse Road, entrance is on the left. To be admitted you must be a member of the Meridian Motorcycle Assn. Dues are $40.00 per year for a Family. And $30.00 a year for a single person.

Sammy Davidson Softball Complex
This complex hosts national softball tournaments.
Features include four diamonds, locker rooms, field lighting, parking for 500, tennis courts and a half-mile track. Admission charge varies according to event (tennis no charge). Take Highway 19 North, turn right on College Drive.
Northeast Park
This 80-acre park consists of a four-field softball complex with multi-purpose building, concessions, field lighting and parking, three international size soccer fields (two lighted) and 10 tennis courts. Open year-round. Fees for special events; all other admission free.

There are three 2-week sessions of swimming lessons taught during weekday mornings at Highland Park. For information, call Parks and Recreation at 601-485-1801. Public swimming at Highland Park and Velma E. Young Pools. Open daily during summer months, from 1- 4 weekdays and 1-5 weekends. Highland Park Pool is closed on Mondays. Velma E. Young Park Pool is closed on Wednesdays.

Tennis courts on the campus of the Meridian High School, Highland Park, the Sammie Davidson Complex and Northeast Park are open to the public. Tennis lessons taught during the summer under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Department at Highland Park.
Courts at Meridian Community College are open to the public from 8:15 am - 8:15 pm during the summer and on weekends. During the school year, the courts are open from 4 pm until 8:15 pm, Monday-Friday and 8:15 am - 8:15 pm, Saturday and Sunday unless occupied by the MCC tennis team.

The Meridian Little Theatre, Mississippi's largest membership theatre, is one of the most active groups in the state. The Meridian Little Theatre building is located on Highway 39 North.
