Environmental education and litter prevention serves as the main goals of Keep Meridian/Lauderdale County Beautiful. The state and national award-winning program became certified as a local affiliate of Keep America Beautiful in February 1986. The program is housed at 723 23rd Ave and staffed by one coordinator and secretarial support. A KAB Commission, consisting of 7-appointees from the City of Meridian, 7-appointees from Lauderdale County and one from the Town of Marion, serves as a support base for the program. The city council adopted a Comprehensive Clean Community Ordinance in 1995 in its on-going efforts to rid the city of weed over-growth, litter and debris. The ordinance has served as a model for other cities throughout the state seeking to teach its residents how to combat litter. Booklets to educate the public concerning litter laws have been published and are available at the KAB office.
Remember litter is a serious problem in Meridian/Lauderdale County. It is an expensive problem and it is everybodys problem. Working together, we can clean up our community. Law enforcement personnel are not the only people who can put an end to littering and illegal dumping. Citizens can take an active role in putting an end to these crimes by teaming up with local officials to combat litter and keep Meridian/Lauderdale County clean, healthy, and beautiful. We can all work together and make an environmental difference. CITY OF MERIDIAN APPOINTED COUNTY APPOINTEES MARION APPOINTEE Adopt-A-Street
