Internal Complaint
Processing
- The Title VI Coordinator will review the complaint
upon receipt to ensure that all information is provided, the complaint
meets the 180 day filing deadline and falls within the jurisdiction of the
City of Meridian.
- Once the complaint is received, the Title VI Coordinator
will investigate the complaint. If the complaint is against the Title VI Coordinator
then the Mayor will designate an individual to investigate the complaint.
- If it is determined that the complaint necessitates a
full investigation, the complainant will be notified. The notice will name the investigator
and the investigating agency. The City of Meridian will also notify the
Mississippi Department of Transportation Office of the investigation.
- The charged party alleged in the discriminatory
activity will be notified of the complaint through a letter which will
include the name of the investigator and the investigating agency and will
request to hold an interview with the party.
- The Title VI Coordinator will receive and review any
recommendations or comments for legal counsel.
- If the Mississippi Department of Transportation will
be the agency investigating the complaint then the City of Meridian will adopt
their report findings as the final resolution.
- All parties involved in the investigation will be
notified of the Mississippi’s
Department of Transportation’s resolution.
- If the complainant is not satisfied with the results
of the investigation, s/he shall be advised of his right to appeal MDOT’s
decision. Appeals must be filed
within 180 days after the City of Meridian
notice of the final resolution. Reconsideration of the City of Meridian’s decision
will not occur, unless new facts or evidence previously not considered are
discovered.
