RECESSED COUNCIL MEETING, TUESDAY, MARCH 22, 2011 AT 9:00 A.M.

 

Meeting called to order by Council President Palmer.

 

Present:  Perry, Henson, Palmer, Smith.

 

Absent:  Thomas.

 

            The first matter brought up was the resolution authorizing donation of MEMA/Katrina cottages.  Councilwoman Henson already has reserved one of the cottages for Mamie Cole on 25th Street.  Councilman Palmer has one of his constituents (Clara Hicks on 44th Avenue) needs one of the cottages.  There are three other cottages at Homeland Security that can be donated to residents who qualify.  Homeland Security Director Tim Miller will get the description and serial numbers for the other three to the City Attorney to be put in the resolution authorizing the donation of these cottages.  All of these cottages have to be property installed at a qualifying location on or before June 1, 2011.  After discussion, Councilman Thomas offered and moved the adoption and passage of the following Resolution:

 

RESO. #5716                        RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING DONATION OF MEMA/KATRINA COTTAGES

 

And, Councilman Smith seconded the motion, whereupon said Resolution was discussed, passed and adopted by the Council by a vote as follows:

 

Yea:  Thomas, Perry, Henson, Palmer, Smith.

Nay:  None.

 

            Kirk Thompson asked the City Council to consider accepting the donation of a van from MDOT.  Motion was made by Councilwoman Henson duly seconded by Councilwoman Perry and unanimously passed by the Council to amend the agenda to add the acceptance of the van from MDOT for $1.00.  Councilwoman Henson offered and moved the adoption and passage of the following Order:

 

ORDER #14979       ORDER ACCEPTING DONATION FROM THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT

                                    OF TRANSPORTATION (MDOT) OF A 1998 FORD CLUB WAGON FULL

                                    SIZE VAN

 

And, Councilman Smith seconded the motion, whereupon said Order was discussed, passed and adopted by the Council by a vote as follows:

 

Yea:  Thomas, Perry, Henson, Palmer, Smith.

Nay:  None.

 

There being no further business to come before the Council at this time, the meeting was adjourned.  Sine die.
