Meridian Fire Chief Jeff Homan has been appointed to positions with two fire service organizations.

 

Chief Homan will serve as the East Central Vice President of the Mississippi Fire Chiefs Board of Directors.  This statewide organization is comprised of fire chiefs from across the state.  His second appointment is as the Mississippi State Director of the Southeastern Division of the International Fire Chiefs Association.  In both positions, Chief Homan will be involved in legislation and other activities to promote fire safety and standards.  These duties will be in addition to his workload as Meridian fire chief.

 

Homan has been Meridian fire chief since December of 2005, when he was named to the post by Mayor John Robert Smith.  He started his career as a firefighter in 1986 and worked his way through the ranks until his appointment as chief.  His experience in all aspects of fire service includes four years as an EMT with Metro Ambulance before joining the fire department, 12 years in fire suppression, four years in fire administration and four years in fire prevention and investigations.
